STAAR Testing will be during the months of March and April and have been posted on the calendar. Students should get a good nights sleep and a hearty breakfast. We are very exicited and look forward to testing days.

Dear Burch Families,

On behalf of the teachers, staff and current study body of Burch Intermediate, I welcome you to our website and our school. If you have a student currently attending Burch I hope to see you on campus during the school year and if you are exploring schools for your student I hope you will stop by and see all the wonderful things we have going on this year.

Burch Intermediate services the needs of students in fourth, fifth and sixth grades. Students in fourth and fifth grade stay with the same teacher for all core subject areas and our sixth grade students prepare for their departure to junior high by having different teachers for core subjects as well as electives. Sixth grade students work closely with their homeroom teachers to ensure a successful transition to increased independence and academic success. Not only do all our students receive a stellar education focusing on math, science and reading but we offer music appreciation, physical education and technology electives.

We recognize not all students learn the same way and our teachers use a variety of teaching styles during the course of each lesson. We also offer individual help for students with dyslexia and other specialized learning needs so that we may help them master techniques that will make learning easier for them.

Our small campus makes it possible for me to personally know each and every student and know his or her academic strengths and weaknesses. I personally track the academic progress of each of my students to ensure they receive any special assistance they need to make their time at Burch enjoyable and an academic success. Parent volunteers are an important part of our school culture and we welcome parents help in the classroom, the cafeteria or on any of our committees. Our school has a parent room with three computers and a full-time staff member dedicated to helping parents learn how to better help his or her student with academics and with the social and emotional changes associated with each grade level. I also have an open door policy with parents and am happy to meet with you at any time to discuss the needs of your student.

This is my fourth year as principal of Burch Intermediate. I began my educational career teaching special education and science. I then became Vice-Principal at Kelley Elementary, the feeder school to Burch. Being at Kelley gave me an opportunity to know most of our students early in their academic careers and it excites me every year to see the incredible accomplishments of our students.

Sincerely,

Eric W. Davis, Principal

Pennies for Pasta

On January 13, 2012, Burch Intermediate students received their individual boxes for our annual Pennies for Pasta kick off. The winning class will receive a pasta lunch provided by Olive Garden. Our students always look forward to this event and to see how much money they can raise for those in need. Olive Garden’s Pasta for Pennies is a national fundraising program in partnership with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and more than three million student participants. Since 1994, the program has raised more than $53 million to support the fight against blood-related cancers, help fund important life-saving initiatives and provide critical services to patients and their families. We are honored to do our part and give back to the community.
Thank you Dr. James Burch

We welcomed Dr. James Burch, our namesake, this past week at our school. He came by to say hello, check on his children, and made a generous donation to the campus. Our students adore him. The money will be used for upcoming events. It is always our pleasure to have Dr. Burch stop in for a surprise visit.
